Barkleyworld was founded in 2013 by Dennis & Karen Lee in memory of our little dog Barkley. We adopted him in 1996 from Homeward Bound Animal Rescue and he lived 19-years! During that time, he had his share of medical issues and we experienced firsthand how expensive it is to care for a sick or injured pet. It is heartbreaking to think of having a beloved pet put to sleep or surrendered to a shelter due to lack of funds to pay for veterinarian care. We volunteered in many shelters and saw many dogs and cats surrendered simply because the owners could not afford medical care and they didn’t know what to do. We’ve been in emergency rooms and watched people with sick or injured pets turned away due to lack of funds. It was heartbreaking. As Barkley aged, we started forming our idea for “Barkleyworld”, a rescue dedicated primarily to raising funds for families who cannot afford catastrophic vet care for their sick or injured pets. In March of 2013 we were granted 501(c)(3) status and 5 months later, cradled in our arms, Barkley left this earth. But his legacy lives on in Barkleyworld.
We are so grateful to all of you for your compassion and generosity in helping to keep Barkleyworld going. It is certainly not your responsibility to help anyone else in need but it’s a very kind thing to do. If you are fortunate enough to have the funds for your pet, then you know how sad it is for someone who does not The families who come to us for assistance are so grateful for help and many “pay it forward” or “pay it back” to Barkleyworld when they are able. Everyone giving just a little helps a lot and together we make a HUGE difference for these families and their pets. Your donations are often the difference between life and death. Sometimes, even with the best treatments, we lose the battle, but not because we didn’t try! Wondering “what if” is a terrible burden that weighs on the heart. Thanks to all of you, Barkleyworld is able to continue helping as many family pets as funds allow.
Reaching out to help strangers with catastrophic veterinarian costs is the heart and soul of Barkleyworld. All funds are paid directly to the veterinarian performing services and never to individuals. We rely solely on donations to keep going so please consider a small donation to Barkleyworld as we continue keeping Barkley's legacy alive. Barkleyworld is a Texas based charity focusing on pets in need throughout North and Central Texas.
